Dive Bar Galander

Light objects and design for the 80s-style dive bar “Keen Puff” by Dominik Galander at Stuttgarter Platz in Berlin.

Dive-Bar /Definition:

A dive bar is typically a small, shabby, eclectic old-style dive bar (here: Kiez_Kneipe) with cheap drinks, dim lighting, dated décor, neon signs, sale of packaged beer, cash only, and local clientele. The term dive was first used in the press in the U.S. in the 1880s to describe wicked eateries that were often in cellars to “dive down”.

Author Todd Dayton offers the following: “Dives are like pornography: hard to define, but you recognize them when you see them.”
